Discussion held with city minibus taxi drivers on road safety and driving in accordance with traffic laws and regulations

(May 6, 2018):- The Addis Ababa Traffic Management Authority held a wide-ranging discussion with 150 taxi drivers today on the correct use of the road, violations and corrections committed by drivers, and driving in a safe manner.
At the forum organized by the Public Relations and Communication Directorate in collaboration with the Awareness and Control Sector, the institution reported on the implementation of several road safety activities during the fiscal year; the implementation of several engineering activities on corridor roads and riverside projects implemented by the city administration; and the implementation of several awareness-based control activities in terms of preventing accidents.

However, in this road use situation, some taxi drivers are not aware of the authority and functions of the institution and do not comply with traffic laws and regulations. The purpose of the discussion is to help drivers understand the authority and functions of the institution properly and to respect the traffic laws when using the road, thereby contributing to the institution's efforts to facilitate the city's traffic movement and protect the community from traffic accidents.

In particular, when implementing the Council of Ministers Regulation No. 557/2016, which was issued to control road transport, a detailed explanation was given to the misunderstandings and questions raised by drivers through various media, and it was indicated that continuous awareness-raising activities will be carried out in the future.
Taxi drivers also appreciated the efforts of the authority to improve the city's traffic management; The problems they encounter on the road during their activities and the issues that need to be addressed were presented in the form of questions, comments and ideas, and the heads of the work departments of the authority provided responses and explanations.

Finally, the participants of the discussion expressed their satisfaction with the platform created for them and promised to do their part to ensure smooth and safe traffic movement in the city by creating a continuous relationship. The discussion program concluded with the participants of today's discussion forum being members of the Sun Taxi Association, and the discussion will continue tomorrow with members of the Zebra Taxi Association.
