(T/M/B January 6/2018) The Addis Ababa Traffic Management Authority is implementing a first-of-its-kind convex marking system that will alert drivers to slow down.
According to Engineer Merga Sefera, Director of the Road Safety Engineering Directorate of the Authority, the first-of-its-kind convex marking system and paint work is being implemented in the city at steep areas, intersections, entrances to squares, and roads without traffic lights that have been identified as areas where frequent traffic accidents occur due to speeding.

The director said that the areas where the same driver warning sign was implemented include Piazza, Mexico City to Sarbet, Achelu Road, from Lebu Lampar to Lebu Medhanalem; Adwa Museum, Palace area; from Kazanchis - Women's Square; from Kazanchis to Palace, from Palace - Tewodros Square, from Abrahot Library to Red Sea Condominium, and along the roads that cross the riverside projects.

In particular, the painting work is a work that helps drivers drive according to the speed limit of the road and be aware of the road conditions in front of them; and when they reach the place, they drive with special attention and give priority to pedestrians,
Engineer Merga, who pointed out that the warning system being developed not only increases the driver's visibility by painting it in different colors but also creates vibration and reduces speed, said that it encourages the driver to drive carefully and avoids traffic accidents.
Engineer Merga, who stated that it will be built in schools, religious institutions, shopping malls and pedestrian areas in a continuous manner, indicated that the activities will be carried out in a more intensive manner based on the feedback and studies received from road users.
It is worth noting that the Addis Ababa Traffic Management Authority has carried out several road painting, marking and signaling works to make the city's traffic flow peaceful and reduce the risk of road users from traffic accidents.
