Bole Branch Office Conducts Drunk Driving Control from 2 PM to 9 AM
• 38 Drivers Fined for Driving While Drinking Over the Limit

(Ed. January 15/2018) The Bole Branch Office of the Addis Ababa Traffic Management Authority conducted a coordinated operation yesterday as part of the Road Safety Awareness and Control Campaign held in January, in collaboration with the City Community Police and Traffic Police members.
In the coordinated drunk driving control process, 780 drivers were breathalyzed and 38 were fined for driving while drinking over the limit, while 63 were given education for driving under the limit, the office announced in a statement.

According to the office's information, the areas where the inspections were conducted were the Gerji Light and Zikr Bar and Restaurant area, noting that drunk driving accidents occur at night, and an intensified operation was conducted during the aforementioned hours.
The office, which announced that it has implemented a strategic direction to prevent drunk driving, which is the primary cause of accidents, indicated that it will continue to strengthen the same process in other areas in the coming weeks.

Under the special level offense, a driver with a breath alcohol level of 0.24-1.0 milligrams per liter will be fined from 1,500 to 3,000 birr and will be assigned 3 to 8 points for the offense.
