January Road Safety Awareness Program Continues in Branches
• Drunk Driving and Other Traffic Violations, Causes of Traffic Accidents, Have Been Controlled

(T/MA/BA (07/05/2018) In Addis Ababa, the Addis Ababa Traffic Management Authority’s Lafto, Kirkos and Mikura Branches, in collaboration with the Traffic Division Departments of the Sub-districts and the Goodwill Traffic Coordinators, have intensified their efforts to provide education on road safety.
Based on the information received from the branch offices, they have disseminated printed materials to all road users at terminals, schools; at squares, in areas with many pedestrians and in areas where frequent traffic accidents occur; and through vehicle loudspeakers and page-by-page lessons.


In addition, awareness activities were conducted in Gulele, Arada and Bedeta. During the inspections conducted between 1-5:00 pm in the sub-districts regarding drunk driving and other violations, Arada sub-district conducted breath tests on 175 drivers from 2-5:00 pm and 7 of them were fined for driving with a blood alcohol level above the prescribed limit.


Lideta sub-district issued fines to 56 drivers for other violations.
Similarly, Gulele sub-district conducted inspections between 1-2:30 pm and 180 drivers were fined for driving under the prescribed limit.
Similar awareness and inspection work will continue in the remaining branch offices.
It is recalled that the Authority launched a one-month road safety awareness campaign on January 1/2019 at Meskel Square.
