Results of the city’s speed management efforts

Addis Ababa Traffic Management Authority’s speed management efforts over the years have led to Addis Ababa participating in the first-of-its-kind international speed management competition in August 2017, where it won a gold medal and $100,000.
Bloomberg Philanthropies recognized Addis Ababa last August for cities that have improved road safety by enacting and enforcing speed management laws.

Among the major activities carried out by the institution in traffic management are the identification of hazardous areas and various engineering improvements (over 640 concrete and 6,000 plastic speed humps, 410 meters of modern driver warning humps/convex markings/over 14 thousand roadside signs and indicators; numerous pedestrian islands, pedestrian medians, safety rollers, pedestrian crossing bridges, etc.).
Also, the number of traffic lights in the city, which was only 35 in 2012, has been increased annually, and currently traffic lights are installed in 173 places to direct traffic.

On the other hand, due to the identification of low speed zones and similar activities, fatalities have decreased by 16 percent in a survey conducted in the areas alone.
The institution continues to work with the help of innovation and new technologies to bring better results and changes in the field of speed management. (March 3, 2018)

በከተማዋ በተከናወነ የፍጥነት ማስተዳደር ተግባር የተገኘ ውጤት

የአዲስ አበባ ትራፊክ ማኔጅመንት ባለስልጣን ባለፉት ዓመታት በከተማዋ ባከናወናቸው ፍጥነትን የማስተዳደር ተግባራት በ2017 ዓም፣ ነሀሴ ወር ላይ አዲስ አበባ በዓይነቱ የመጀመርያ በሆነው ፍጥነትን ማሰተዳደር አለም አቀፍ ውድድር ላይ ተሳትፋ የወርቅ ሚዳሊያና የ100,000 ሺህ ዶላር ተሸላሚ ሆናለች፡፡
Bloomberg Philanthropies በፍጥነት አሰተዳደር ላይ የትራፊክ ህጎችን በማውጣት እና ተግባራዊ በማድረግ የመንገድ ደህንነትን ያሻሻሉ ከተሞችን አወዳድሮ ባለፈው ነሀሴ ወር ለአዲስ አበባ ከተማ እውቅና ሰጥቷል፡፡

ተቋሙ በትራፊክ አስተዳደር ካከናወናቸው አበይት ተግባራት መካከል አደጋ የሚበዛባቸውን ቦታዎችን በመለየት የተለያዩ የምህንድስና ማሻሻያዎች (ከ640 በላይ ኮንክሪት እና 6,000 የፕላስቲክ ፍጥነት ጉብታዎች፣ 410 ሜትር ዘመናዊ የአሽከርካሪ ማንቂያ ጉብታዎች/ ኮንቬክሰ ማርኪንግ/ ከ14 ሺህ በላይ የመንገድ ዳር ምልክትና ማመላከቻዎች፤ በርካታ የእግረኛ ማረፊያ ደሴቶች፣ የእግረኞች መከለያ ሚዲያኖች፣ ሴፍቲ ሮለሮች፣ የእግረኞች ማቋረጫ ድልድዮች፣) ይገኙበታል፡፡
እንዲሁም በከተማዋ በ2012 ዓ.ም በቁጥር 35 ብቻ የነበሩ ትራፊክ መብራቶችን በየዓመቱ ቁጥራቸው እንዲጨምር በማድረግ በአሁኑ ወቅት በ 173 ቦታዎች የትራፊክ እንቅስቃሴውን የሚያሳልጡ የትራፊክ መብራቶች ተተክለዋል፡፡
በሌላ በኩል ዝቅተኛ የፍጥነት አካባቢዎች (low speed zones) ተለይተው በመሰራታቸውና መሰል ተግባራት በመፈጸማቸው በአካባቢዎቹ ላይ በተካሄደ የዳሰሳ ጥናት ብቻ የሞት አደጋዎች 16 በመቶ ቀንሷል።
ተቋሙ በቀጣይም በፈጠራ እና በአዳዲስ ቴክኖሎጂዎች በመታገዝ በፍጥነት አስተዳደር ዙሪያ የተሻለ ውጤትና ለውጥ ለማምጣት እየሰራ ይገኛል፡፡ /ት/ማ/ባ መጋቢት 3/2018)
