(T/M/B/ February 20/2018):- Addis Ababa Traffic Management Authority Kirkos Branch Office Road Safety Awareness and Enforcement Directorate, in coordination with volunteer traffic controllers and Popular Police members, recently conducted a corrective action against pedestrians who did not use the correct road usage.
The branch office issued a notice No. 557/2016 regarding the improper use of pedestrian crossings /zebras/; Ato Mulualem Adgo, the head of the traffic control team at the branch office, said that corrective action was taken against 137 pedestrians who were found to be using non-pedestrian crossings and vehicles that were not allowed for pedestrians.
As part of the corrective action, 150 pedestrians who could not afford to pay the fines were assigned to work as social service workers - distributing and coordinating the results of a fundraising campaign for road users.
The branch office has been conducting strict control work on pedestrians who do not use the correct road use at intersections, pedestrian crossings and crossings for two days a week since last January, and the team leader announced that this practice will continue to be strengthened.
