More than 2 thousand pedestrians were fined in Addis Ababa in March
April 10, 2016 (Arada FM) Addis Ababa Traffic Management Authority announced that 2,608 pedestrians were fined in March.
The Addis Ababa Traffic Management Authority has signed a memorandum of understanding with stakeholders regarding penalties for pedestrians who do not use the road properly.
The official said that 286 citizens lost their lives in traffic accidents in the last nine months.
Addis Ababa Traffic Management Authority Deputy Director General Amare Tarekhen said that according to the amended regulations, pedestrians will be fined from 40 birr to 80 birr if they are on the road illegally.
They said that those who cannot afford to pay will be given environmental cleaning and beautification work and road traffic safety education.
In addition, it is said that 15 minutes of cognitive education will be given to children and the elderly who cannot carry out the punishment.
It was pointed out that the city's cleanliness and beauty, Addis Ababa's law enforcement, the city's police commission, the goodwill coordination commission and the Addis Ababa transport offices should be jointly responsible for the enforcement of pedestrian fines. @Arada fm 95.1 @Arada fm 95.1 ·
