July 8, 2018 - 3,000 drivers who were driving under the influence of alcohol were fined in Addis Ababa City. The Traffic Management Authority of Addis Ababa City carried out control work to prevent driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the 2018 fiscal year. Public relations and communication director of the authority, Ms. Genet Dibaba, told Bisrat Radio that during the fiscal year, 3,356 drivers were fined for driving under the influence of alcohol. The authority conducted the control in 11 sub-districts of the city as drunk driving poses a great danger to the driver and other road users. In the future, the authority said that the control will be strengthened to prevent drunken driving and other violations of traffic rules and urged drivers and pedestrians to respect the traffic laws and regulations.
