The green footprint that has changed the face of Addis Ababa and made it more livable, while nature supports human existence by donating clean air, rain and lush land, humans should take responsibility for taking care of it. The Green Footprint National Movement started in 2011 to maintain this natural balance; It is bringing many benefits in terms of social, economic and environmental aspects. Addis Ababa City Beauty and Green Development Bureau Communication Affairs Directorate told AMN Digital; In the past seven years, 90 million saplings have been planted in the capital, and 86.82 percent of those planted have been approved. Among those planted are fruit trees for food as well as plants used for traditional and modern medicine, the directorate added. This great movement not only restores the city's ecology, but also plays an important role in preventing environmental pollution and dealing with climate change. Apart from making the city beautiful and livable, it also made it possible to create many green recreational areas for the residents. It has also created a wide range of job opportunities for local citizens, and has made a great positive contribution to building the diplomatic image of the country. To continue this success at a higher level, extensive preparatory work is being done in the city to plant 5 million saplings in this year's sapling programme. In order to make this year's plan a success, the directorate announced that at present, planting and transporting seedlings, digging wells, creating a large public movement and providing training to the experts in the field have been completed. It has been stated that this great national movement will further strengthen the ongoing efforts to create a green and livable city in a manner that involves its residents. AMN
