In the explanation given by the Minister of State for Transport and Logistics, Ato Bero Hassan, regarding the electric vehicle; He announced that a strategic plan is being drawn up to bring electric vehicles into the country in order to reduce the one point four billion dollar fuel cost that the country spends annually. According to Ato Bero; Since the government’s tax incentives on electric vehicles and the change, many vehicles are being imported into the country. He said that the number of imported and domestically assembled electric vehicles currently in service has reached more than 100,000. He also said that the government’s tax incentives will help support the investor’s initiative and efforts to increase the country’s renewable energy supply and reduce air pollution. They also indicated that 60 electric vehicle charging machines have been assembled in different areas in Addis Ababa city. He added that the work of expanding the construction of electric vehicle charging centers to regional cities and the work of introducing long-distance vehicles to the market is being done. He said that efforts are being made to expand electric charging centers in other cities of the country by coordinating with the relevant institutions, organizations and the private sector to arrange a place for the centers to be built. The Minister of State said that electric vehicles will free the transport sector from oil dependence and help reduce the foreign currency spent on fuel purchases. He stated that the sector’s contribution to economic growth is high, so the ministry is providing the necessary support to the private sector. He said that apart from economic benefit and air pollution prevention, electric vehicles help to avoid noise pollution and speed up technology transfer.
