In a report titled “African Cities 2035”, the institute announced that medium-sized cities, including Addis Ababa, can grow at a high rate. Africa’s giant cities such as Cairo, Lagos and Johannesburg are expected to maintain their economic dominance, while medium-sized cities such as Addis Ababa will record the fastest growth, the forecast indicated. After Addis Ababa, Brazzaville, Dar es Salaam and Luanda are among the cities that are expected to record high growth. Growth includes infrastructure development, urbanization and the creation of nearby megacities, the report notes. It is also mentioned in the report that Addis Ababa, which has been recognized as one of Africa’s fastest growing economies, will register a double-digit annual GDP growth until the end of 2035.
