It was announced that 145 buildings have started providing underground parking services in the last 6 months due to the implementation of Vehicle Service Regulation No. 165/2016. **** (T/MA/BA January 15/2017) :- Vehicle Service Provision Regulation No. 165/2016 was approved and put into operation. The Directorate of Parking Infrastructure and Management of Addis Ababa Traffic Management Authority has announced that 145 buildings have started providing underground parking services in 6 months of the fiscal year. Director Binyam Getachew said that currently 249 buildings are providing parking services and 2,490 vehicles have been removed from the main road. The director said that the regulation has created a favorable environment for the work of the office to increase the demand for parking infrastructure and to make the flow peaceful. Mr. Biniam explained that the owners who meet the requirements to provide underground parking services are being made to work within a time limit and those who are not open to the service are being monitored and inspected and fined. Ato Binyam said that the use of under-building parking spaces for their intended purpose only reduces the number of vehicles parked on the road, thus reducing the traffic flow. He explained that if the supply of parking spaces in the Balastan office is increased, it is a matter of time to link it with the data system. According to Mr. Binyam, in the second round of road corridor infrastructure, it is being coordinated to increase vehicle parking infrastructure and in the future, vehicles will be parked in designated places outside the road and main roads will be used for traffic only.
