The Addis Ababa Trade Bureau has informed that appropriate legal and administrative action has been taken against 91 gas stations where problems were found in the annual fuel meter measurement inspection carried out by the Addis Ababa city administration. As fuel is a strategic product, the Addis Ababa city administration has been working on establishing an accountability system to make the transaction modern, efficient, fair, accessible and free from corruption, from the importer to the end-user society. The Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce has been conducting an annual inspection of gas stations meters in order to ensure that the public can get products and services that are reasonable for the price they pay, by managing the unfair advantage-seeking in the sector through law and order and by establishing an accountability system. As a result, in 133 gas stations, where measurement problems of the recording nozzles were found in meter tests, action was taken in accordance with Article 23 and 25 of the Fuel Products Marketing Proclamation 1363/2017. Based on this, 3 gas stations were found to be defrauding the consumer society by selling 20 liters of standard 1 liter to 1 liter of 560 milliliters. The 3 gas stations that were found to be in violation of the supervision have been stopped from receiving any fuel products for a period of one to two months and have been disconnected. A final written warning has been given to 21 gas stations that were harming the public by reducing the standard of 20 liters from 500 ml to 999 ml. A written warning has been issued at 64 petrol stations for depleting the 20 liter standard from 200 ml to 499 ml. In general, out of the 133 gas stations in our city, legal and administrative action has been taken against 91 gas stations. Furthermore, according to Article 25 Sub-Article 4 of Proclamation No. 1363/2017, we are informing that any person who cuts or distorts the measurement of oil measuring devices with a measuring device adjusted by a plumb bob will be punished with three years to seven years of imprisonment and a fine of three hundred and fifty thousand to five hundred thousand silver. And we state that the control of standard measuring instruments will continue to be strengthened.
