Addis Ababa Road Safety Council discussed the implementation of the 9-month plan ************************** (April 03/2016):- In Addis Ababa City Administration Road Traffic Safety Council members, members of the higher education institutions, media, government officials and stakeholders discussed the implementation of the 9-month plan for the 2016 fiscal year and the future directions of work. Head of Addis Ababa City Transport Bureau, Mr. Mtku Asmara, opened the discussion program with a speech and said that due to the increase in the number of vehicles and population in the city, the increase in economic and social activity is becoming the reason for the increase in the number of traffic collisions. They announced his arrival. He said that in nine months of 2016 fiscal year, 286 people lost their lives in road traffic collisions and although it showed a decrease of 9 people compared to the same period of last year, the fact that the traffic accidents are depriving the youth who are productive, made the matter of concern. He pointed out that there has been a slight decrease in the number of serious and minor injuries in the past nine months and that many works are being done by the city administration to solve the problem in a sustainable way. Addis Ababa City Administration Traffic Management Authority General Director and Road Safety Council Secretary Ato Kbebew Mideksa Road Safety Council member institutions presented a 2016 fiscal year 9-month plan implementation report. Among the things that the Director-General presented in the report are the construction of a road traffic safety management system, improvement of the main roads with high traffic accidents, parking infrastructure, awareness and capacity building activities, law enforcement activities, post-accident treatment services, and the implementation of traffic accident data management and reporting activities. . After the report, there were comments that if it is possible to strengthen the coordination system in reducing road traffic accidents and fill gaps, if it is possible to strengthen your action on punishing not only drivers but also pedestrians. There were also suggestions that if international signs and signals and traffic light timings were to be reviewed, if our road traffic safety and control work was done by completing the city with appropriate technological resources, if the necessary infrastructure was provided before punishing pedestrians, and if the speed limit humps were to work according to their standards. At the conclusion of the program, the constructive suggestions raised by the officials from the house were taken as resources and they will be included in the future directions of focus. They thanked the council members and institutions for their hard work in 9 months.
