Kbebew Mideksa, Director General of Addis Ababa Traffic Management Authority, explained the purpose of the memorial day and opened the panel discussion with a speech. According to Ato Kbebew, 1.5 million people die in traffic accidents worldwide, 30 to 40 million lose their bodies. Africa, especially sub-Saharan Africa, accounts for the largest proportion of these numbers. The chief director said that both our country and our city are victims of this terrible accident. The Director General added that road traffic accidents can be prevented and stopped by making the principle of cooperation between all road actors. In the same program, we need to make promises and turn them into actions, and the director general has entrusted the religious leaders and the media as well as artists to work on raising awareness about road traffic accidents. Professor Brook Ersedo, a bone specialist at the Black Lion Hospital, said that in Ethiopia, a country of 130 million people, 2 million unfilled cars kill more than 5,000 people every year. After saying that this should make us ashamed and embarrassed, the biggest part of this destruction is the disobedience of drivers to the traffic rules and the problem of ethics. Therefore, since it is a challenge that can be overcome, the relevant parties, especially religious leaders and artists, should play a major role in understanding and teaching the severity of the disaster, Professor Brock conveyed his message. Next, academics invited from Abet Hospital, W.I.R and Addis Ababa University presented research articles for a panel discussion on road safety.
