Roads dedicated only to buses increase the capacity of public transport and reduce the flow
Addis Ababa; April 18/2016 (ESA):- The Addis Ababa Transport Office announced that roads dedicated only to buses will increase the capacity of public transport and reduce the traffic flow.
It is also mentioned that the number of the city's residents, which is constantly increasing, is not compatible with the available transport options and the number of people.
The city administration is carrying out various activities to help ease the traffic congestion and lack of transportation.
In some of these roads, in addition to the existing bus stops, signs for buses are prominently written on the right side.
Regarding the roads set aside for buses only, ESA met with the head of Addis Ababa Transport Bureau Mr. Mtku Asmare.
Ato Mtku said that the number of buses in the city is not proportional to the number of passengers and the increasing number of passengers has highlighted the problem.
They said that the roads set aside for buses will help to balance the supply and demand by streamlining the buses and allowing them to load passengers quickly.
The head of the office also said that work is being done to alleviate the problem by increasing the capacity of the buses at the bus entry and exit times.
He also stated that the works that were started earlier from Wingate to Giorgis will be expanded to JEMO THREE in the future.
He said that increasing the lanes will ease the traffic congestion and control operations will be done in a strengthened manner against the drivers who use the said areas improperly.
