Ababa City Administration Traffic Management Authority in collaboration with Ethiopian Police University is providing capacity building training to traffic control staff at the training facility in Sandafa City. Training for Road Safety Awareness and Enforcement Directorate Directors, Team Leaders and Inspectors focuses on basic physical fitness, ethics, legal framework and service delivery. Addis Ababa Traffic Management Authority Deputy Director Amare Tareqin said at the opening of the program that the authority will carry out many activities to ensure peaceful and acceptable traffic movement. He said that among the activities, the main task is to reduce traffic accidents and smoothen the flow, and strict traffic control work is the most important to achieve this goal. In particular, driving above the speed limit, driving while talking on the phone, not wearing a helmet and not wearing a seat belt can be controlled to reduce the risk. In this way, to make the traffic control work more effective, they stated that it was possible to identify gaps by conducting a survey in advance. According to the study, it was necessary to provide training on ethics and physical fitness, so the program was prepared in collaboration with the Ethiopian Police University. Mr. Amare stated that the capacity building training will be given to 300 traffic control workers for three consecutive days in the first round, and he pointed out that in the second and third rounds, similar programs will be given to 800 workers in all 11 branch offices.
