“Due to strict traffic control and road traffic safety works in Addis Ababa, traffic accidents are lower than other cities in the country” * (T/M/B January 04/2017) :- Heads of regional transport sector institutions visited the city's transport services and infrastructures in the principle of tax completion. The Honorable Dr. Alemu Sme, the Federal Minister of Transport and Logistics, who attended the weekly road for people event, stated that due to strict traffic control and road safety works in our city, Addis Ababa, traffic accidents are low in other cities of the country. He said that the annual traffic accidents in the city are decreasing. Therefore, the leaders and workers of the transport sector from the region should learn from the experience of Addis Ababa city and reduce the serious traffic danger. Currently, the transport sector has been given special attention by the government due to the widening of vehicle roads in the city through the development of corridors, the lack of pedestrian roads, the growth of non-motorized transport, the development of parking spaces and the promotion of vehicle-free roads. The minister said that by expanding the experience of Addis Ababa city, the road corridor work is being done in the regions as well. He also thanked the bodies that organized the experience exchange program. Head of Addis Ababa Transport Bureau Mr. Yabbal Addis, on his part, explained to guests from the region for the past three days about the procedures, practices and experiences gained during a visit to the sector in terms of service delivery, road infrastructure and road traffic safety. Addis Ababa Traffic Management Authority Deputy Director Amare Tareqin said while launching the program, one of the missions given by the authority office is to ensure peaceful and acceptable traffic movement in the city. Based on this, he stated that he has been able to reduce traffic accidents in the past years, and in addition, as a city, by encouraging non-motorized transportation in the community, he explained that the road per person program will be conducted at 11 places every week and 33 places per month.
