December 24, 2018 (Arada FM) The Addis Ababa Police General Department together with the Traffic Management Authority and Vital Strategy organized a forum regarding Road Safety Month. Deputy Head of Traffic Management Authority Amare Tareqin stated that road safety awareness activities will be held on various platforms from January 1st to January 30th under the motto "Let's save lives by obeying road traffic laws". He also said that the month of January is especially busy with religious and social events in the country, so it is planned to save people from traffic accidents. He said that the awareness work will be done on the principle of "We can reduce traffic accidents" in the month. They also stated that page to page in schools, street agitation and media awareness work will be done. In addition, it will be controlled according to Rule 557/2016, and the traffic management authority will control the vehicles until 6 o'clock in the night unlike usual, he said. Data indicate that 1.2 million people die in traffic accidents in the world every year. According to the Federal Police, one person dies in a traffic accident every 2 hours in Ethiopia, and more than one person dies in a traffic accident in Addis Ababa every day.
