(Meskerem 12, 2018 E.C.) Mr. Natnael Shiferaw, Manager of the Deaf Services Organization, stated that the installation of road signs indicating "Deaf People Nearby" for the first time in the city has relieved deaf individuals of the traffic accident risks they previously faced.
Mr. Natnael explained that installing these road safety signs offers significant benefits for traffic safety and inclusivity; by providing early alerts and warnings to drivers near pedestrian crossings and educational institutions, the signs help motorists reduce their speed.
The manager noted that, as a result, deaf individuals crossing the road can now do so safely and with greater confidence, adding that these signs strengthen the city's inclusive road infrastructure.

He highlighted that the installation of signs—carried out in collaboration with the relevant institutions during the past fiscal year near Tikur Anbessa and Bole Higher Secondary Schools (where deaf students attend)—has brought great relief, and efforts are underway to install similar signs in other areas.
Official, Addis Ababa Traffic Management It will be recalled that an official previously stated that, in a country with five million deaf citizens, this is the only institution in the city to have installed a sign indicating the presence of deaf people in the area.
