We wish the entire community of our city a happy Ethiopian New Year (2019 E.C.)

We wish the entire community of our city a happy Ethiopian New Year (2019 E.C.) filled with peace, good health, and zero traffic accidents.

To make this wish a reality, every single one of us must play an active role in keeping our roads safe.

For Drivers

  • Strictly Obey Traffic Laws: Adhere to posted speed limits, respect right-of-way rules, and follow all traffic lights and road signs accurately—especially around busy intersections and pedestrian zones.

  • Maintain Full Focus: Avoid all forms of distracted driving. Refrain from using mobile phones (calling, texting, or browsing), eating, or driving while preoccupied with distracting thoughts. Keep both hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

  • Never Drive Under the Influence: Absolutely refrain from operating a vehicle after consuming alcohol, drugs, or medications that cause drowsiness.

  • Ensure Vehicle Technical Fitness: Conduct routine safety inspections before setting out. Always double-check brake responsiveness, tire pressure and tread depth, headlights, turn signals, windshield wipers, and fluid levels.

  • Wear Seatbelts & Ensure Passenger Safety: Make sure everyone inside the vehicle wears a seatbelt at all times, and ensure children are properly secured in appropriate child safety seats.

For Pedestrians

  • Cross Only at Designated Spots: Always use zebra crossings, pedestrian footbridges, or traffic-controlled signals. Avoid jaywalking or stepping onto roadways unexpectedly.

  • Stay Alert While Crossing: Look both ways—left, right, and left again—before stepping onto the street. Put away your phone, remove headphones, and ensure vehicles have come to a complete stop before crossing.

  • Use Designated Sidewalks: Always walk on designated footpaths and sidewalks, staying completely clear of vehicle lanes. If a road lacks a sidewalk, walk facing oncoming traffic so you can see approaching vehicles clearly.

  • Stay Visible at Night: Wear bright or reflective clothing when walking along roads during early mornings, evenings, or rainy weather to ensure drivers can spot you from a distance.

By moving with a heightened sense of shared responsibility, we protect our own lives and safeguard everyone around us. Let’s make this year safer for all!
