(Addis Ababa Traffic Management Authority – September 23, 2019): The Addis Ababa Traffic Management Authority, in collaboration with the Ethiopian Police University, has launched an on-the-job capacity-building training program for traffic control personnel today.
The training, designed for directors, team leaders, and control experts from the Road Safety Awareness and Law Enforcement Directorate, focuses on key areas such as cognitive aptitude, basic physical fitness, professional ethics, legal frameworks, and service delivery.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Amare Tareqegn, Deputy Director General of the Addis Ababa Traffic Management Authority, stated that the Authority is undertaking multifaceted activities to ensure peaceful and orderly traffic flow.

He emphasized that the primary objective is to establish a proper road usage system by reducing traffic accidents and facilitating traffic flow; to achieve this effectively, he noted the necessity of providing continuous capacity-building training for traffic control professionals. According to Mr. Amare, given that the current month of Meskerem is a period of heavy traffic flow, the training participants will apply the knowledge they have gained to perform their duties effectively and with professional ethics.

For his part, Deputy Commander Dr. Abel Gebremedhin, Vice President of the Ethiopian Police University, noted that for the past 80 years, the university has primarily focused on military science education, research, and training aimed at enhancing the mental and physical fitness of personnel from various institutions.
He further stated that once the regulatory staff of the Authority complete this training—which covers professional ethics, service delivery, and physical fitness—and return to their duties, their service provision will improve.
In their feedback, the trainees remarked that the capacity-building training would enhance their professional capabilities and assist them in providing service that is centered on the needs of the public.
The schedule indicates that the training, which commenced today at the Ethiopian Police University, will be conducted continuously over three rounds.
