The role of public service transport in reducing traffic accidents *********** Addis Ababa, January 01, 2018 (FMC):- Public service transport is playing its role in reducing traffic accidents and maintaining road safety, said the Ministry of Transport and Logistics. The 11th year of the establishment of Public Service Transport Service was celebrated by giving recognition and award to the captains of the institution who obey the traffic laws and drive without causing traffic accidents for a long time and with various programs. According to the Minister of Transport and Logistics Berao Hassan, the service is playing its part in reducing traffic accidents and maintaining road safety. He emphasized that drivers should understand the social and economic pressure caused by traffic accidents and take the necessary precautions. Acting General Director of the Public Service Transport Service, Taddios Lera, said that the service has been running successfully for the past 11 years as its main mission is to provide service to government employees at the time of entry and exit from work. He said that 75 percent of traffic accidents are caused by the driver's lack of caution. He also pointed out that recognizing and rewarding drivers who have not caused any accidents throughout the year has an important role in encouraging them to do a better job. More than 330 bus captains who have driven without any road accident for 9 to 7 years have been awarded and recognized at the forum.
