(Addis Ababa Traffic Management Authority – July 10, 2026): The Addis Ababa Traffic Management Authority shared its experience today with visitors from the transport sector in Debre Berhan.
During the visit, the guests remarked that they had observed the implementation of international-standard road safety strategies and high-quality enforcement procedures in Addis Ababa.

The visitors noted that although two years have passed since the Council of Ministers issued Regulation No. 557/2016 regarding road safety and traffic control, this Authority is the only entity effectively implementing it.
Speaking during the experience-sharing session, Mr. Amare Tareqegn, Deputy Director General of the Authority, stated that when the Authority was established nine years ago, its primary mandate was to ensure road safety and reduce accidents. Mr. Amare stated that over the past few years, numerous activities have been carried out—grounded in the city's transport policy and a newly formulated road safety strategy, and executed in collaboration with both government and non-government organizations—to ensure smooth traffic flow and the safety of road users.

He explained that to implement the 18 powers and duties mandated by the city administration, the Authority has established various operational units, including directorates for road safety education and capacity building, road safety engineering, enforcement and incident management, parking development management, and insurance fund services.

Additionally, Mr. Dereje Worku, a team leader in the enforcement sector, presented an overview of the activities performed by these units, illustrated with photographs; meanwhile, Mr. Abdi Qitesa, an enforcement expert, explained the initiatives being implemented to support enforcement and parking services through technology. In their feedback following the briefing, the visitors expressed great satisfaction with the reception and explanations they received, affirming that the Authority is implementing proper operational practices for the transport sector; they also stated that they would adapt the experience gained to their respective regions and cities for practical application.
Finally, the team members visited the Authority’s control center and expressed their appreciation.
